In February, 1996 when the Applied Ecology Study (AES), the predecessor of Korean Society of Environment and Ecology (KSEE), marked 10th anniversary of the foundation, the AES was reorganized into the KSEE with an aim to continue the extensive research on the national parks mainly conducted by the AES members on a yearly basis. The National Parks Commission (NPC) is designed to provide the direction about how to conserve and manage efficiently the national parks and the natural ecosystem by conducting an extensive research on the ecosystem and its utilization status regarding the major national parks and their excellent natural resources. Additionally, the purpose of the NPC is to make a contribution toward the national environment health and conservation by accumulating the basic data on the environmental conservation and management.
